PRE-REQUISITES: None

Celebrate the Equinox on September 22, 2023, the day in which we have equal parts light and dark. The Equinox Explorer 5k challenges you to explore and appreciate the nature in your area, whether this is a forest, desert, or city park. To earn this title run or walk your dog 5 kilometers (3 miles) in nature. Although we only require proof of the distance, we encourage you to also submit a photo of the nature you found in your area of the world.
.
INSTRUCTIONS:
  1. PRE-REGISTER and pay now, using this form.
  2. Complete your 5k nature run/walk any time between now and the end of October.
  3. Show proof (such as a GPS fitness tracker or phone map, a stopwatch, a video clip, a photo, or a witness statement) to a certified Canine Conditioning Fitness Coach (CCFC), or by uploading your proof on this website.
  4. When you’ve finished your run/walk, let us know by clicking the purple button lower on this page.
  5. You will then be mailed your Equinox Explorer 5k swag that you selected (certificate, ribbon, patch, T-shirt). Good work!

QUESTION: Do we have to complete it in ONE walk?
ANSWER: Fitness is for everyone. If your dog is unable to complete the walk in one shot, he may do multiple shorter walks.

RACE DIRECTORS:  Want to host a live Equinox Explorer event? Pre-purchase ten or more titles for 10% off, and we’ll mail you a package with the ribbons and medals.

FAQs:

QUESTION: Do we have to RUN?

ANSWER: You can run or walk. You and/or your dog should be exerting yourselves with effort. If either the person or the dog is only capable of a slow walk, then they should do the slow walk. Fitness is for everyone.

QUESTION: My dog is very old and walks slowly. Can he still do it?

ANSWER: Fitness is just as important for senior dogs as for younger dogs, and we applaud your attention to his health. Go get ’em!
